Photo Tours

2008

Listed below are the photo tours for 2008. Tours given by many other companies have 10 to 20 individuals, but that is too many to provide individual attention and getting the best out of your experience. I keep them small, a maximum of six individuals, so that I can provide as much attention to each photographer as possible. For overnight tours, I give evening workshops and critiques. I can’t guarantee that you will get award-winning shots, but I can put you in the time and place that will offer the most potential, and with my help, you might just get that shot of a lifetime. Each tour will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis. To secure a place, you must provide the non-refundable deposit.

Why join one of my tours?

1. I keep my tours small so I can provide individual attention to everyone.

2.  I help you take the best pictures possible, both in terms of your tools and in terms of the subject.  Many other tours will take you to the location, but that's all they do.

3. I have a Bachelors degree in Conservation and a Masters in Natural Science.  I am a naturalist, and as an outdoor photographer, I can help teach you about the subjects (from astronomy to zoology) as well as about photography.

4.  I love teaching people.

For more details regarding any of these tours, contact me via the e-mail address: Imagenorthwest@comcast.net or call me at:

If you have a non-photographer spouse who wishes to accompany the group, no problem since there will be no additional charge.

Limit 6 per trip
Price $650 per person
$200 non-refundable is required by April 1, and the rest by April 15

This one of the best times to go to the Gorge. The leaves are just coming out and the trees are a brilliant green. Together with the many waterfalls, this provides for great pictures. The Gorge has some of the best waterfalls in the world, with many that are only a short walk away. Some of the falls that will be visited include Latourell, Multnomah, Horsetail, Ponytail and Elowah Falls. The first two days we'll focus on waterfalls, while the third day we will visit the wildflower country along the eastern Cascades. There will be a two night stay at the Best Western in Caascade Locks, Oregon, which is near many of the falls. The two nights of lodging is included in the price. Here are a few tips on waterfall photography.  If you have further questions about this trip and would like complete itinerary, just send me an e-mail:  Imagenorthwest@comcast.net

This is a single day trip to the gorge, leaving from Olympia early morning. We will focus on waterfalls and forest scenics. On this trip we will visit waterfalls that are fairly easy to get to, like Latourell, Bridal Veil and Multnomah, plus a few others.

Mt. Rainier National Park, Washington
Thursday July 31 single day trip

Limit 4
Price $200 per person, $100 non refundable is required by July 1, and the remainder by July 15.

I will be visiting the south side of the park, focusing on Reflection Lakes, Paradise, Snow Lake and perhaps old growth forests. This is the peak of the wildflower bloom, which can be spectacular at this time of year. Going on a weekday will not be so crowded as on the weekend. The actual agenda for the day is dependent on weather conditions (sun versus overcast). Regardless of the conditions, I will make the most of your adventure. Transportation from Olympia provided as well as a picnic lunch. If you have further questions about this trip and would like complete itinerary, just send me an e-mail:  Imagenorthwest@comcast.net

Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Steens Mountain and Diamond Craters, Oregon
Tuesday through Friday, September 23-26, 2008

Limit 6
Price $800 per person
$200 non refundable required by June 1 and the rest by August 15. (I need to make advanced reservations a few months prior to the tour to secure lodging. Lodging at the Field Station and at Frenchglen Hotel will be provided in the cost, as well as one fine dinner at the French Glen Hotel.)

This will be a four-day adventure, getting wildlife shots as well as fall aspen colors. Malheur NWR is a great place in the autumn with potential shots for mule deer, antelope, sandhill cranes, egrets, herons, swans and lots of other wildlife. And the Steens Mountain is one of the most picturesque places for fall colors. So this trip will be a combination wildlife and landscape expedition. Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico

Limit 6
Price $650 per person
$200 non refundable is due by October 1, and the remainder due by November 1.

This is one of the premiere places in the world for bird photography. Last year over 10,000 sandhill cranes and 40,000 snow geese visited the refuge. Plus there are many other types of birds including waterfowl and raptors. The sheer multitude of birds is a world wonder. I will meet folks at Motel 8 at noon December 10th for introductions and specific agenda for the next few days, and from there we will visit the refuge.
