Pacific Northwest Landscapes

by Bruce Sanford

The Pacific Northwest is a great place for a photographer. The diversity of subjects can hardly be matched anywhere else. Below are some of my favorite images. Many of the images below were taken with a 6x9 centimeter medium format camera, which produces an image of more than five times that of a 35mm camera. This rangefinder camera is completely manual, and one has to put some thought into the settings before clicking the shutter, including taking off the lens cap. I primarily use Velvia film, a fine grain, high color saturation film. Together, the camera and film produce exceptional prints.  That's what I use to do.  Now, with the development of high resolution digital SLRs, these cameras produce images that are every bit as good as medium format equipment and some are equivalent to large format cameras.  It's great!!
