Purchasing Prints

MATTED PRINTS

Giclee (pronounce z-clay) is often used by some printers to instill an exotic term for their print processing.  It's a French word that means "to spurt".  Actually it's the use of an inkjet printer that uses either dye or pigment "to spurt" onto paper.  It's no different than the everyday printer that most folks now have connected to their computer.  However, there is a difference in the types of printer, and some are much better in applying ink to the paper.  In addition, the better printers can used a variety of papers including the "fine art" papers that are now available that give the best colors, textures and longevity to the print.  Canvas has also become available, and can be use to print photographs to give them a painted quality.  All prints on the website are printed using the best combination of ink and paper, and, yes, it is the "giclee" process.  Printing is done using an Epson printers.   The ink and paper combinations for this particular brand has better longevity than with many other printers.   All materials that go into the print (paper, ink, mat, foam core, tape) are archival materials, and, if properly maintained, the final print will last decades without color degradation.

With the evolution of digital photography and the ability to use software to edit pictures, it's very easy to "enhance" or simply change images to the point that "that's not the way it was".  Every show I see examples of this, some good, some not so good. I'm not knocking this direction, but that is not what I do.  I try to portray what was really there, and not to make up something that wasn't there.

I mat all prints, choosing colors that will enhance the print but not distract from the image.  For that reason, I tend to be conservative with mat colors, often choosing grays and shades of brown or whites.  Photographs are printed on semi-glossy paper or mat paper (canvas is also available), backed with a 1/8-inch foam core board and single matted with 4-ply acid-free  board.  For double matted prints, I will add 20% to the cost.  Prints are shipped in a clear bag to protect it until it's ready for display. On selected photos (meaning those that can be printed in larger sizes) I now have the ability to print up to 22 inches wide with an unlimited height.  The table below gives the standard sizes along with prices.  I will do custom sizing upon request as well as framing, with prices depending upon the frame style and size.  Shipping large framed prints can be a problem, especially with glass, but if you live locally, they can be delivered in person.  If not special arrangements can be made.  I do have many of the framed versions of various photographs available at my shows.

* Shipping is 10% of order.  Washington residents need to add 8.4% tax.

At this time I have not developed on-line payment, so you will have to resort to the old fashion way and send a check.  However, I do take phone orders and can apply payment to either a Visa or Mastercard.  If you are a Washington resident I must charge tax.  But don’t fret, these are really good prints, and if you are not satisfied, return the print in the original condition and I will refund your money, minus shipping.

To order, identify the image name and the size you would like.  I do require full payment before I ship. However, to get a head start on the process, since I print them as needed, e-mail me and let me know what you would like.  I will then begin putting things together.  It will take me about two weeks from the time of notification to get the print off to you.

If for some reason, you are searching for a particular photograph in a particular area, let me know.  What I have exhibited on this website is only a fraction of my available stock.  If you would like a complete stock list, I would be happy to send it along.
